Resin Grinding Wheels Are Affected By Changes in Abrasive Material

Jul 13, 2023

Let's start with standard vitrified or resin grinding wheels. These grinding wheels come in various sizes, each designed to grind materials. Abrasives are affected by changes related to humidity and temperature. Ideally, these products should be stored in a cool and dry place before use. If you use resin adhesive wheels, please store them in their original packaging to avoid extreme temperatures, check them for damage before use, and then handle and install them carefully. Check the grinder or electric tool to ensure that it is in good working condition and that the mounting nuts and flanges match the tool correctly without wear.
All bonded abrasives degrade over time, so many bonded abrasive manufacturers list their products with an expiration date (preferably earlier than) three years later than the production date. Make sure to rotate your raw materials to ensure that you can fully utilize your abrasive.
All coated abrasives are affected by changes in environmental conditions. Although they usually do not have an expiration date, if they are in very dry or humid conditions, they often curl, and in some cases, curl to the extent that the abrasive coating is broken and unusable. By storing the product in its original packaging and in an area that does not affect humidity, this issue can be reduced. Some manufacturers package their discs in reusable "tightening" cans to ensure that the discs remain flat before use.
