Material Specifications for Resin Grinding Wheels

Apr 09, 2026

Resin grinding wheels are grinding wheels that are made with a binder. There are many types of binders for resin grinding wheels, including A, WA, SA, PA, GC, C, 38A, DA, and 19A. Many people may not understand what these letters and numbers mean; they represent different materials.

A – Brown fused alumina abrasive: Brownish-brown in color, with high hardness and high toughness. Suitable for grinding metals with high tensile strength, such as carbon steel, alloy steel, malleable cast iron, and exceptionally durable bronze.

WA – White fused alumina abrasive: White in color, harder than brown fused alumina, easily broken abrasive grains, sharp edges, excellent cutting performance, and low grinding heat. Suitable for grinding hardened steel, alloy steel, high-speed steel, high-carbon steel, and thin-walled parts.

SA – Single-crystal corundum abrasive, pale yellow in color. Compared to A and WA abrasives, it has higher hardness and toughness and consists of single-particle spherical crystals with strong resistance to breakage. Suitable for grinding materials with high toughness and hardness, such as impenetrable steel and high-vanadium high-speed steel, as well as workpieces prone to deformation and burning.

PA – Chromium corundum abrasive, rose-colored or purplish-red. It has a sharp cutting edge, excellent edge retention, and high durability. Suitable for grinding cutting tools, measuring tools, instruments, threads, and other workpieces with low surface roughness requirements.

GC – Green silicon carbide abrasive, green in color. It has high hardness, is brittle, has a sharp abrasive edge, and possesses certain thermal conductivity. Suitable for grinding cast iron, brass, lead, zinc, as well as rubber, leather, plastics, wood, ores, etc. C-Black silicon carbide abrasive, grayish-black in color, with high hardness, relative brittleness, sharp abrasive grains, and good thermal conductivity. Suitable for grinding hard and brittle materials such as cemented carbide, optical glass, and ceramics.

Resin grinding wheels have high strength and can incorporate reinforcing fiber mesh and steel bars, such as in cutting discs and grinding discs. Most resin grinding wheels are not waterproof and cannot be used with grinding fluid. However, some resin grinding wheels, such as epoxy, require the addition of grinding fluid. Resin grinding wheels produce excellent surface finish and are less prone to workpiece burns. Resin grinding wheels are used in cutting discs, double-end grinding wheels, heavy-duty grinding wheels, polishing wheels, etc.
