Cutting wheels play a vital role in various types of cutting equipment, and the key points for daily maintenance of cutting wheels cover multiple aspects.
1. Appearance inspection
Integrity inspection
Regularly check whether the overall structure of the cutting wheel is intact. This includes checking whether the wheel body of the cutting wheel has cracks, gaps or deformations. For example, for a grinding wheel cutting wheel, if there are cracks, it may break when rotating at high speed, which will not only damage the cutting material, but also pose a serious safety threat to the operator. In some metal processing workshops, the cutting wheel is cut many times a day. If this appearance integrity check is ignored, once the cutting wheel breaks during work, the broken parts may fly out at high speed, and its energy is enough to cause damage to surrounding equipment and personnel. Therefore, before each use, you should carefully observe around the cutting wheel. If necessary, you can use tools to assist in checking some difficult-to-detect parts, such as the root of the wheel body and the shaft.
Wear inspection
Pay close attention to the degree of wear of the cutting wheel. Different types of cutting wheels have different wear conditions. Taking the cutting wheel in the wire cutting machine as an example, the wear of its molybdenum wire will affect the cutting accuracy and efficiency. If the molybdenum wire is worn excessively, the size deviation of the cut workpiece will increase. In daily maintenance, the wear condition can be judged by comparing the diameter of the new molybdenum wire with the diameter after a period of use. Generally speaking, when the diameter of the molybdenum wire is reduced to a certain extent (for example, about 80% of the original diameter), it is necessary to consider replacing it. For the grinding wheel cutting wheel, the wear is mainly reflected in the rim part. If the rim wears unevenly, it will cause uneven force during cutting, affecting the cutting effect, and will also accelerate the further damage of the cutting wheel. By observing the texture and flatness of the cutting wheel surface, it can be preliminarily judged whether its wear is uniform.
2. Connection inspection
Connection between shaft and cutting wheel
Ensure that the connection between the cutting wheel and the shaft is firm. In many cutting equipment, the cutting wheel is driven to rotate by a specific shaft. For example, in the grinding wheel cutting machine, the shaft and the cutting wheel are usually connected by nuts. Check whether the nut is loose regularly. If the nut is loose, the cutting wheel will shake when rotating, which will greatly reduce the cutting accuracy, and the additional impact force generated by the shaking will accelerate the wear of the cutting wheel, and may even cause the cutting wheel to fall off the shaft. During the inspection, you can use appropriate tools (such as wrenches) to check the nuts for proper tightening, but be careful not to over-tighten them to avoid damaging the cutting wheel or shaft.
Transmission component connection
If the cutting wheel is driven by a transmission belt or chain, check the connection of the transmission components. For the transmission belt, check whether there are signs of wear, looseness or breakage. Excessive wear of the transmission belt will lead to reduced transmission efficiency, so that the cutting wheel cannot reach the normal speed, affecting the cutting effect. If the transmission belt is loose, it may slip, which will also affect the normal operation of the cutting wheel. For example, in some large CNC cutting machines, the normal operation of the transmission belt is crucial for the stable operation of the cutting wheel. For chain-driven cutting wheel equipment, check whether the chain links are loose, whether there is a stuck phenomenon, and the lubrication of the chain.
3. Work environment related inspections
Cleanliness inspection
Keep the working environment of the cutting wheel clean. A lot of debris will be generated during the cutting process, such as metal chips generated during metal cutting and stone powder generated during stone cutting. If these debris are attached to the cutting wheel, it will affect the cutting performance of the cutting wheel. For abrasive cutting wheels, debris may be embedded in the pores of the grinding wheel, reducing the cutting ability of the grinding wheel. At the stone cutting site, if a large amount of stone powder is attached to the cutting wheel, it will increase the load of the cutting wheel and may also cause the wear of the cutting wheel surface to increase.
Therefore, the working area around the cutting wheel should be cleaned regularly, and the cutting wheel should be specially cleaned after a certain period of use, such as using compressed air to blow away the debris on the surface, or gently brushing off the attached impurities with a brush.
Temperature and humidity inspection
Pay attention to the impact of the temperature and humidity of the working environment on the cutting wheel. Some cutting wheels have certain requirements for the temperature and humidity of the working environment. For example, laser cutting wheels may affect the emission and focusing effects of the laser in a high temperature environment, thereby affecting the cutting quality. In an environment with high humidity, some parts of the cutting wheel may rust or be damaged by moisture. In some processing workshops in coastal areas, the humidity is relatively high. If you do not pay attention to the moisture-proof treatment of the cutting equipment, the service life of the cutting wheel will be significantly shortened. For this case, the humidity of the working environment can be controlled by installing a dehumidification device, and at the same time, ensure that the cutting wheel is stored in a dry environment when not in use.
